Lessons & Classroom Games for Teachers
Here are a couple of great games for your daily lessons!
Math Hurdles
This is a great game to review number facts and to get some exercise.
1) Tell students to find a partner that is about the same speed.
2) Have students sit with feet extended across from their partner.
3) Give each pair a number (the numbers you assign will depend on the facts you want to review).
4) Call out a number fact (i.e. 2x4).
5) The pair that is the answer to the fact stand up and hurdle the other pairs' legs and then run back to their spot.
6) The student that gets back to their spot first gets the point.
Change up the pairs' numbers to practice different facts. Make sure that partners are spaced out enough to allow the runner to hurdle and land safely.
Super Word
This is a classic game that improves vocabulary and spelling.
1) Put students in pairs or in teams of three.
2) Write a long word on the board.
3) Some good words are international and characteristic.
4) Have the teams create as many words as possible from the word.
5) Students may scramble the words but not use proper nouns.
6) The team(s) with the most correctly spelled words wins.
If students seem to be running out of words you can add bonus letters to lengthen the game. Try to match stronger spellers with weaker speller in order to keep everyone involved and the teams evenly matched.
Both of these games will help to spice up your lessons and get your students engaged and moving throughout the day.
