Lessons & Classroom Games for Teachers
Lesson Plan
This is an adaptation of chiritori, a game that every Japanese person knows. In Japanese someone says a word. The next person has to say a word that starts with the sound the previous word ended on. Ex. A: densha, B: shakai, C: kaimono, etc. Repeat until someone can't think up a suitable word.
The English way to do it is to make the students make a word starting with the last letter of the previous word. Ex. A: train, B: notebook, C: kid, ect. Of course you can make the game as difficult as you want. The Japanese version only uses nouns, try it that way in English. Limit the words to adjectives or verbs, for advanced students narrow the field to topics like animals or sports, the sky's the limit. Write the words on the board. Make teams and have contests. Go around the class once as a warm up. Just do it!
