Beanbag Activities with Preschoolers
By:Pattrick Jhonson

The diversity of uses of beanbags is astounding. You must know what beanbags are. They are pear shaped bags also known as oversized bags, or physics bags and are filled small, soft pellets made of poly vinyl chloride. The bags are used mainly for relaxing purposes like sitting, resting or lying down. According to a wide variety of sources, beanbags are good for the back and joints. This has increased the popularity of beanbags among all segments of customers. Moreover the bags are a style statement in themselves since they come in vibrant colors and various shapes

The bags are being used for alternative uses increasing, for doing exercises for the stomach and the abdomen and the back. It is also used in schools and pre schools as furniture and for teaching purposes

Here are some of the activities played with grade 1 or 2 kids at school. The the aim of this activity is to create awareness of different parts of the body though manipulation with the beanbags. It can be used as an introduction and there can be further modifications added this activity which takes about 30 minutes. The prerequisites are that the participants must have learnt to come to a stop and listen for the next instruction, when the whistle is sounded. Each pupil should have a beanbag which is meant to be thrown and caught while sitting on the floor. The beanbags should be spread across the floor before the lessons to prevent the kids from rushing together at the same spot at the same time. Bags should be thrown and caught while sitting on the floor, the latter part is very important. The kids should be told the bags are bombs or grenades and will explode if dropped. This activity is limited to 5 minutes.

The position should be changed now to kneeling on the floor. Again, emphasis should be made and attention of the kids should be drawn to the importance of catching the bag and not throwing it as high as possible. This should be continued for 4 minutes. Now the position should be changed to standing on the floor. The pupils should throw the beanbag and clap hands as many times as possible before catching it. For every clap he earns a point but, if he fails to catch the bag he loses the points. The importance is thus still on the catching. This should be done for 5 minutes.

Now the bag must be thrown while walking or jogging. The pupils are made aware of the fact they must throw the bag a bit farther to catch it. they should throw the bag while jogging around which will teach them to keep a lookout for others while moving, The kids should also be made to find a partner, stand apart 8 paces from each other and throw beanbags to each other. Every time a successful catch is made, the thrower will take a step back fro the catcher and if there's a miss then the thrower steps closer. This activity promotes cooperation.
