LISTENING LESSON PLAN

OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson,
1) Students will have covered listening skills
2) Students will have learned to listen to other students
3) The interaction between the students and the teacher will have improved
PRE-LISTENING

Time: 3 min.
Materials:Pictures
Interaction:T/Ss-Ss/Ss
What students do:To guess five words which they think they will hear in the conversation by helping the pictures
Grouping:Groups of four
Aims:
- To motivate/interest students to get to the topic.
-To give students a reason for listening
- To activate their background information
-To contextualize the listening text

STEPS
1) The teacher shows some pictures about the text
2) The teacher says that they are going to listen to a conversation between some friends
3) The teacher asks students to work in groups of four and together try to guess five words which they think they will hear in the conversation by using the pictures.
4) After they talk about the words,the teacher gets the stage.

WHILE LISTENING

Time: 8 min(4 min for each section)
Materials: Worksheets-Pictures
Interaction: T/Ss
What students do: Ss are asked to understand the listening text in detail at the end of listening
Grouping:Whole class

LISTENING FOR GIST

Aims:
- To ensure ss understand the main idea/gist of the listening text
STEPS

1)The teacher gives some questions on the worksheets and some pictures about the text
2)Ss listen to the conversation
3)Ss answer the questions the teacher gave before by using the pictures
The questions
- How many people are there in the conversation?
- What are they mainly discussing?
- How many events did they speak about?What are they?
- What is the main themes?

LISTENING IN DETAIL

Aims:
- To ensure ss have the specific information about the listening text
- To get them understand the text in detail.

STEPS
1) The teacher gives ss the copy of the conversation but some words in the conversation are wrong
2) Students listen to the conversation again
3) Students correct the wrong words
4) The teacher checks their answers and corrects if they are wrong

POST LISTENING

Time: 4 min.
Materials: -
Interaction: T/Sts – Sts/Sts
What students do: Ss discuss about the ideas in the conversation
Grouping: Two groups
Aims: To improve their speaking skills with the help of creativity

STEPS

1) Ss are divided into two groups
2) One group supports the idea (the use of gun is danger to society so it is unnecessary)while the other group supports the idea (the people use the gun to protect themselves so it is necessary)
