English lesson – Traveling
By:js

At the beginning of the English lesson ‘Traveling’, students are offered twelve pictures of different types of transport which they should match with the following words: train, jet, cruise ship, car, yacht, ferry, truck, airplane, submarine, bicycle, helicopter, and bus. When students have identified all means of transports, they should distribute them into three categories according to the way of traveling, such as by land, by air, or by sea. After doing this, students should further distribute all transports under the headings: vessel, vehicle, and aircraft.
The next activity encourages students to discuss advantages and disadvantages of all types of transport using superlatives such as ‘Which of these transports is the fastest, slowest, cheapest?’ etc. Having discussed this, students move to the next exercise which is to match different types of holidays with their definitions. The holidays include: package holiday, camping, cruising, and backpacking.
The next activity is to complete a dialogue with the missing words. The dialogue is based on the situation where a man is calling his travel agent and books a trip to Spain. Once the students have completed the dialogue, the teacher asks them to practice reading the dialogue is pairs, and then try to act it out relying on memory only.
The teacher shouldn’t ask the students to learn the dialogue by heart, but rather encourage them to write the hints for the dialogue, and then verbalize it with their own words. The lesson finishes with the crossword puzzle to solve either in class or at home.
