It is easy to find large alphabet stencils on the internet. That's good news because they are really useful in the classroom. Here are ten easy ideas.

1. GAME MARKERS
Students gather where the card for their group is - A's here/B's here
Students work through a range of activities marked by letters - Area A, Area B, Area C

2. NOTICE BOARD HEADINGS
Of course! Choose big alphabet letters that can be easily colored or painted by your students. They love to get involved and it saves you time. This is the perfect activity to give to students that have finished other work.

3. SPORTING EVENTS
Make sports signs in house or team colors (Go Tigers!)
Before the school sports day, each school house can make their own sign and display it in a common area.
If the letters are printed on card they can be incorporated into chants. Give us a B - Give us an A - Give us an H

4. HOLIDAY DECORATIONS
Make quick and easy holiday decorations. Post MERRY CHRISTMAS! or HAPPY HALLOWEEN! along a wall or hanging from the ceiling.

5. MODELLING
Use large letters as samples of font styles that students can can use in their own projects and posters.

6. LETTER GAMES (print large letters on thin card - 2 sets)
Lay the cards upside down and take turns finding matching pairs.
Line the letters up in front of the class with a handful missing. Students place the missing cards in the right place.
Students work in small groups to put a pile of mixed up letters in alphabetical order.

7. ALPHABET PHOTO
Give each student a letter and challenge the whole class to get the letters in order without your help. If you can, do this outside because they will make alot of noise. When the students are in line take a photo and put it on the classroom notice board. It's extra special if the students can color the letters in first.

8. GIANT NAMES
Give students the letters of their names to color and decorate. If space and time is limited just use the first letter of their name. These look great filled with a collage of colored paper, sequins and glitter. Stick them on a class wall, give them to students to take home or use them, one name at a time to focus on a star of the week.

9. SCHOOL EVENT SIGNS
Shout about what is happening at your school.

10. LETTER BOXES
Letter sorting boxes are great for lower grades learning to read and write. Create a box for each letter and fill it with things that start with that letter

The "things" can be pictures, photos, words written on card, stuffed toys, found items, and household objects.
