Team Building Activities for Kids in the Classroom - Games, Activities, and Ideas for Classroom
By:Takuya Hikichi

"Guide" (also known as Blind Obstacle Course) is played in small groups of 4 to 7 people. One child from each group is designated to be blindfolded and guided through an obstacle course by the rest of his teammates.

The obstacle course can be set up by cones and ropes. The "blind" child is told in which directions to move by the teammates, who watch him/her navigating.

Excitement can run high in this activity as teammates yell commands such as "a little more to the left!" or "three steps forward!" This game can be played outdoors and indoors (although the noise level may get high), and to add some friendly competition between groups, the first team which successfully maneuvers the blindfolded child through the course wins.

Children will learn skills such as communication, listening, cooperation, and trust. This is an excellent game to play in the beginning of the year in order to unite and energize the kids in the classroom.

"Compliments" is a confidence boosting activity that can be played as children in a class get to know one another. All the children are arranged in a large circle with a piece of paper in front of them and a pen or pencil in their hands.

The piece of paper should have their names printed on top in large letters. The children will then rotate one spot to the right while their papers stay in the same location.

Upon rotating, they will be presented with the piece of paper belonging to the person who was originally to the right of them.

The children will then write a compliment about the person on the sheet, something they have noticed about them and liked.

After one full rotation of the circle has been made (so that each child has written on everyone else's paper) the compliments can be read by the owner of the sheet.

This activity will not only help self-esteem, but allow children to see how their interactions have impacted and benefited others. This is a great way to bring the class together and feel spirited in the middle or at the end of the year as a final farewell.

The classroom is a ready opportunity for children to socialize and develop friendships and team skills. The lessons learned in this setting are necessary in future work and family scenarios, and the sooner children feel comfortable with themselves and others, the more effectively they will be able to understand and handle problems and relationships.
