Lessons & Classroom Games for Teachers

'Point-de-la-mot' game - Short Lesson
By:PL

One game I played when I taught french to elementary students during my student teaching year was 'Point-de-la-mot' (creative, I know - haha.. not at all - Point to the Word)

I would make two big circles on the blackboard (yes, kids do love these inventions :) - two big circles and I would write their spelling words in them. I would place the words in the same spot for each circle.

I split the room up into two groups.

Then I would number each student.. 1,2,3,4,5,6 - (this can be useful for you to teach them numbers.) - each side would be numbered.. so there was a pair of 1's, 2's, 3's

Then I would call up a pair (sometimes I did it in order, other times I said them randomly - it might be better if you do it in order since they are not familiar with the language).

Ok - i gave them each a pencil or marker (that was their pointer) and then i would say a word. And the first person to point to it would get a point for their team.

Most points in the end - wins. I gave out stickers.

You will want to use the alphabet instead of words.

Good Luck!!
