Alphabet cards game - Short Lesson
By:PL

Make up the alphabet cards...big enough to place on the board and be seen by all (if you have a magnetic board put magnets on the back of the cards).
Game:
1) Introduce the game by introducing each letter and the sound it makes. As you show the card place it on the board. Remember to be clear: This is the letter 'A', it say aah...Please say it with me...A say aah as in apple. Continue this way until Z.
2)After all the cards have been place on the board, ask for VOLUNTEERS to name the letter and say the sound of the card you point to, take the card off the board as students name them (this will allow students to experience success) ***look for students who are not participating and give them a chance with the easy letters***
----remember to only introduce short sounds----
3) Last , make up words and model blending sounds. then call students to do the same>example:
p-o-t ...Ask students to name each letter...then each sound...now help them blend the sound. Have at least 10-15 words ready to sound-out. You may not have time to do them all but this will eat up time if you need to...

This game will take up to 20-30 minutes if you use the : Introduce-model-practice strategy for learning.

Goodluck.
