ESL Game - 5 Corners
By:Joe Tosczak

This game is called "Corners." It is very easy to play and it is a lot of fun! You can play this game at the beginning of class to warm the students up; or at any time that you sense that the students focus is not well; or at the end of the class so that the students go home happy.

This game is usually played with younger students, but it can be played with all different age levels. The best way to figure out if this game is a hit in your class is to test it out. If the students have a blast playing...play it more often. If the reaction is not great, then you should find a different game to play with them.

To start this game you will first tell the students "What corners are," and designate each corner a number.

Corner 1, corner 2, corner 3 and corner 4.

The teacher will close his eyes and count to ten. When he/she is counting the students will quietly go to one of the four corners and wait. When the teacher reaches ten he/she will then pick one corner. "Corner 2!" The teacher will open his eyes and every student that is at corner two is out; and those students must sit in their chairs until the game is over.

The teacher will then close his eyes and count to ten again; the remaining students will then go to whichever corner they choose. When the teacher finishes counting to ten, he/she will pick another corner and attempt to catch more students.

Keep repeating this process until there is only one student left; and that student is the winner!
