ESL GAMES - Should I Be Using Them?
By:Matt Tamsczak

If you teach English overseas...should I be using ESL Games?

The answer to this question is YES!

The reason why you should be using teaching games is because they are proven to help students learn.

The reason why ESL Games help students learn is because this method of teaching makes teaching FUN!

When you are having fun and learning at the same time...you don't even notice that you are learning. All that you notice is that you are having a good time. And when the class is over your students leave smarter and they will be excited to come back to your next class.

Imagine that your classes are hard. Your students will not like to come to your class. When you are teaching they will give up internally. They will not learn if what you are teaching is interpreted as hard by them.

Now imagine that your class is boring. You are teaching the material...but your class is boring. If your class is boring your students will start to day dream and not focus. When your class is over your students will leave and dread coming back to your boring class.

So, don't make your class hard; and don't make your class boring.

The best way to teach English as a second language is by using ESL Games. These are games that help your students learn at the same time. They are not games that don't incorporate any teaching or learning. In fact they are the opposite.

ESL Games makes learning fun; by teaching using this kind of teaching method your students will even study harder so that they can be better next class. Imagine that?! Your students actually studying harder than ever so that they can be the best student in class. Competition is something that can light a fire under your students!

Students love games; when they are not in school they are at their friends house playing games; or they are at home playing some online game. These are just the facts. So, what better way to help your students learn by using fun ESL Games in your class!
