One of the most fascinating subjects for children is nature. More specifically, children are curious about the four seasons and how weather and time work together outside and on the calendar. As a parent or educator, you job is to make it fun for children to learn about the seasons. This can be done in a few easy steps.

Sit down with the children in an informal setting and describe the four seasons. Chat with them about the seasons and see if they can come up with a couple on their own. This conversation is meant to be a foundation for them to start to think about the subject and for you to get a grasp on how much they know and do not know.

Go outside and show them the different aspects of that particular season. If the season is winter, show them the snow and how they can see their breath. Ask them about holidays in that particular season. For example, talk about Christmas if it is winter or Fourth of July if it is during the summer.

Have the children draw a picture of each season. The picture should display different aspects of each season, such as activities, weather and holidays. For example, if the child is drawing a picture of fall, then they should be concentrating on leaves, Halloween and going back to school.

Show children the calendar and describe each season in terms of the months that it contains. Point to holidays on the calendar that highlight each season. This will be a great way to tie the topic of seasons together for children.

Save the pictures they drew. Repeat Step 1 each season by showing them what they drew. Repeat Step 2 and 4 during each season to hone in on the differences of each season.
