Easy Keyboard Christmas Music for Kids
By:Collaborator

Easy keyboard music is intended for kids to enjoy and to learn how to play. There are several strategies to make easy keyboard music friendly for kids for Christmas time. Other holiday music is widely available, and you can follow a few tips to make sure you've got easy keyboard Christmas music for students to play.

Buy First-level Music
Find first-level music for kids at a music supply store or on the Internet. Go to your local music supply store and ask for a beginners Christmas book. You will find piano music that has single-hand fingerings and simple note structures. The music that you buy should be written with quarter-note melodies in the right hand, and one-note chords in the left hand. Buy big printed sheet music as well. Easy Christmas songs in this type of music include themes that children already know, such as "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," which are traditional easy-to-play Christmas songs.

Transpose Difficult Music
Transpose difficult adult music to an easier level for children to play on the keyboard. Take the melody line that is found within the right hand of adult music and take out other parts that might be confusing. Change the left hand from a series of chords or moving notes to one chord or note at a time. Change the tempo from eighth notes to quarter notes to make counting easy. Songs that have a prominent melody, such as "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and "Joy To the World" are easy to transpose, no matter what level you begin with.

Hymns
Take traditional hymns and change them to fit children at the keyboard. Find a traditional hymn book and make photocopies of the songs. Use whiteout to get rid of notes other than the melody in the right hand and a basic chord pattern in the left hand. Instruct students on how to play these types of hymns and Christmas songs. Songs that work well here are traditional hymns that come with basic melodies, such as "Silent Night" and "Away in a Manger."
