Look for Christmas skits that are age-appropriate for your group of kids. Divide roles with long speaking parts into smaller roles to include more children. Use a narrator to say the speaking parts while very young children act out their parts rather than asking them to memorize lines. Customize the lines to suit the situation so it's appropriate for the format of school, preschool or church.

Winter Theme
"Winter's Children" features children dressed appropriately as Wind, Frost, Ice, Snow and Winter, each reading a poem describing her strengths.

"Winter Wonderland" is a skit based on the song of the same title and features kids acting out the words of the song. Have one dressed as a snowman, one dressed as Parson Brown and have several dressed as the kiddies who knock the snowman down.

"Jingle Bells" is a skit based on the song and is a good option for preschool children. Give them hobby horses with bells on them and let them ride their horses while the song is being sung.

Religious Theme
"A Brand New Star" is a children's skit that retells the birth of Christ. This skit is interspersed with songs and has speaking parts for a narrator, Mary, Joseph, shepherds and several angels. This skit is a good choice for groups of children with a wide range of ages.

"And the Animals Talked" is a skit for small groups and has parts for six to eight children. This skit focuses on the animals point of view when humans invade their stable on that first Christmas Eve. Plan on this skit taking approximately 10 minutes to perform.

"God's Angels" is a skit based on the television show "Charlie's Angels," which was popular in the 1970s. This play calls for a narrator, God, three angels, three shepherds, three wise men and Mary and Joseph. God gives the angels various missions, which end with a traditional nativity scene and everyone singing "Joy to the World."

Santa Claus Theme
"Santa Claus" is a short skit in which one child is dressed as a herald and playing a pretend trumpet. He's followed by another child dressed as Santa Claus. Various children or a narrator read a poem about Santa's trek across the skies and the deliveries he makes.

"The Hidden Claus" is a skit with four speaking parts. This play focuses on a worn out and cranky Mrs. Santa Claus who complains about her husband's time management, music and weight. Mrs. Santa Claus decides to deliver the gifts this year and gets an eye-opening experience about the true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas Tree Theme
"Trimming the Tree" is a skit with a mother, father and child. Mom is at the sink, doing dishes while the father and child haul in an oddly shaped tree. The father disappears and the mother gives directions for trimming the tree. The child runs back and forth delivering messages. Finally the father asks if it's perfect yet and it's revealed the tree's been trimmed to the shape of a Shepherd's staff.

"The Christmas Tree" is a skit that is easily adapted to a variety of ages and participants. The narrator reads about the meaning of the various things used to decorate the tree like lights, bells and angels. Children can decorate the tree with the appropriate decorations while the corresponding parts are being read.
