Chocolate-making Lessons
By:Jen Marx

Chocolate is popular for snacks, dessert and many evening meals for some individuals. Grocery stores, restaurants and the like are abundant in their supply of chocolate bars and other treats. However, you may want to make chocolate for yourself, either at home or with lessons from a professional.

At Home
If you are looking to casually learn how to make chocolate, consider checking out some lessons which you can follow from the comfort of your own home. For example, chocolate maker John Scharffenberger has a video that will teach you how to make dark chocolate at home. Another option would be to purchase a kit from a local craft or grocery store. Follow the directions provided on the box.

Local Chocolate Making Classes
Many towns and cities across the country offer chocolate-making classes. The Craft Cave (craftcave.com/chocolateclasses.php) in East Williston, New York, offers such classes, which are often based around an upcoming holiday or the season. Several hours away farther north in the country, enjoy a chocolate workshop where you will make truffles in a one-time session class at the Chocolate Workshop. The workshop is available in Boston and Cambridge, but also in Washington, D.C.

Professional Schools
Take a course or enroll in a program to learn how to make high-quality tasting chocolate. At the Professional School of Chocolate Arts (ecolechocolat.com), learn how to use chocolate molds, create gourmet recipes and how to craft new chocolate recipes. Visit the Vermont Chocolate School, which offers classes for beginners and for advanced chocolatiers. Another option is to sign up for both courses at one time. Doing so will allow you to receive a discount.

Vacations
Consider planning your next vacation around some chocolate-making lessons. Visit the famous Hershey's (hersheys.com) in Deery, Pa., where you can make your own chocolate bar or take a short class in truffle making. If you're taking a trip overseas, visit the Cadbury factory in Birmingham, England. You'll be able to select popcorn, biscuit pieces or marshmallows amongst other goodies. Milk chocolate will be poured over them. Furthermore, you can watch a chocolate-making demonstration and write your name in chocolate.
