Inspirational Humorous Christmas Stories
By:Kate Taylor

Christmas time is often a time when families gather together for some great food, good company and funny stories that truly bring out the real meaning of Christmas. If you are interested in finding the perfect inspirational and humorous story that your entire family will love, consider books, movies and family tales.

Children's Stories

The tale of Santa and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is humorous and inspiring.
There are many different Christmas children's stories that are both humorous and inspirational. For example, the story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer combines humorous elements with the inspirational message that children should never give up on following their dreams. The movie "Elf," featuring Will Ferrell, makes for a funny movie the whole family can enjoy, while also inspiring the family to remember the true meaning of Christmas spirit. Many short children's books that come out around Christmas are also able to combine humor with inspiration, so watch in your local bookstore for new releases.

Traditional Classics

Scrooge's adventures offer inspirational and humorous insights.
The novella "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens is a Christmas classic that follows Scrooge on his strange and humorous journey toward finding out what really matters during the Christmas season and throughout the year. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," by Dr. Seuss, is another inspirational and humorous classic that tells the story of giving during the Christmas season. "The Polar Express," by Chris Van Allsburg, is a newer classic that will teach the whole family lessons about Christmas spirit while keeping everyone laughing.

Christmas Movies

Christmas movies often contain humorous and inspiring stories.
Christmas movies offer a fun and memorable holiday activity. "It's a Wonderful Life" is a classic Christmas movie that teaches the important lesson of how every person makes a difference. It makes for a perfect family movie because of the way it is able to provide humor to all age groups. "The Nightmare Before Christmas," directed by Henry Selick, is another fun movie that combines humor with the important lesson of staying true to who you are throughout the year. Consider watching the "Home Alone" movies for an inspirational and humorous Christmas movie marathons.

Family Stories

Sometimes family stories are all you need on Christmas morning.
Remember that sometimes you don't a need a story written by a famous author or directed on a Hollywood stage. You can share your own family's Christmas stories to add humor and inspiration to the season. Consider telling these stories at family gatherings where a family member did something so funny that taught everyone a lesson. For example, tell the story about how your mom burned the Christmas dessert in the oven while the family was enjoying a meal together, to combine humor with the inspirational message that spending time together is the most important thing.
