Acapulco is a Mexican resort town that is a popular travel destination for visitors, especially those from the United States of America. By Air - The main airport in Acapulco would be Acapulco International Airport. This is located about twenty-five kilometres away from Acapulco. A bustling airport that caters to both domestic and international flights, it handles about a million tourists a year. If you are travelling to Acapulco from other parts of Mexico such as Mexico City, Toluca, Tijuana and Monterrey, you can hop onto domestic carriers such as Aeromar, Volaris or Interjet, among many others. Internationally, there are direct flights from Montreal, Newark, Houston, Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta and Phoenix. The main international airlines that fly to this airport would be American Airlines, Continental Airlines, US Airways and Sunwing Airlines. From the airport, you will find it fairly easy to get to major tourist areas by taking either the bus or the cab.

By Bus - If you are from major cities such as Mexico City, you will find that there are many buses that can take you to Acapulco. One of the most popular bus services would be the Estrella de Oro. Bus travel is safe, reasonably priced and fairly comfortable. They also give you the opportunity to soak in the sights and sounds along the way as well as to interact with the locals. Generally, the trip will take several hours with pit stops along the way. Buses will drop you off at Acapulco bus terminal, from where you can walk to some of the major tourist centres.

By Car - A new highway, the Autopista del Sol, has been built, linking Mexico City to Acapulco. This is the desired route for all tourists who have driven into Mexico or who have rented a car within Mexico and wish to get to Acapulco. The tolls are rather steep, but the journey is significantly shorter and more hassle-free than the other alternatives. Although the highway is relatively safe and modern, visitors are highly recommended to ensure that their vehicles are up for the journey and to travel in groups as much as possible. Parking and congestion may also be a problem once you have entered Acapulco.
