In Response To: Teaching English in Mexico: A Decent Living? (Douglas Bower)

Hello,

I am wondering where you get your information from?

I live in Mexico (D.F), I teach English and I "make a living" doing so.

From what you write, I assume "teaching English" refers to language schools only. I have never taught at such a place, but I know people who do/have and they too are "making a living."

One thing I am extremely curious about, is how do you get this $3-$5/hour figure? There are not many people I know here who make $5/hour and certainly no one makes $3.

Also, how is contacting 3 schools representative of what any particular city offers? Do you have any idea how many places there are in Mexico City alone to work at? I do not, but the number is certainly large enough that talking to 3 schools provides zero reflection on the market.

Of course, not all jobs pay wonderfully, and making your millions to retire early isnĀ“t going to happen either. However, making enough to live and enjoy life is possible.
