Interesting article. I am leaving for Guanajuato tomorrow for two weeks of study and this is certainly not good news. I live at Lake Chapala, however, and have not encountered any pushing and shoving here or in Guadalajara. I have noticed, however, that in matters of orderliness, such as forming a line, Mexicans in general seem to lack the concept. While I have never been shoved or pushed, it is not at all uncommon for someone to simply walk to the head of the line at the grocery store or the pharmacy. I first noticed this in customs on my first visit to this country.

The rushing-about-despite-the-fact-they-are-late-for- everything phenomenon manifests itself in rude driving behavior throughout Jalisco, where I lived for over a year. Horn honking, passing on the right, ruthlessly cutting you off in traffic (particularly if you need to make a lane change), and so on. I don't understand it either since the guy who just passed on a blind curve is undoubtedly on his way to a meeting scheduled for last Monday.
