Costa Rica Beaches – From the Golden Coast to Montezuma
By:Jason Albright

Some of the most incredible features of Costa Rica are the famous Costa Rica beaches. The Guanacaste coastline, known as the “Golden Coast,” has the most pristine Costa Rica beaches. This coast has the most Costa Rica beach resorts, and is a popular destination for tourists. With the opening of the Liberia International Airport, this area will be even more full of tourists.

There are several main Costa Rica beaches just to the south of Guanacaste. Montezuma is on the inner rim of the Gulf of Nicoya. This Costa Rica beach is a popular destination for younger foreign tourists. Montezuma features smaller hotels and is near the Cabo Blanco National Park. Naranjo is also a Costa Rica beach on the Gulf of Nicoya along the inner rim. This beach is considered remote compared to other Costa Rica beaches, but it is actually not difficult to reach Naranjo.

Puntarenas is the old main port of the Pacific. This is the main city on the Pacific Coast, and is very crowded. However, it is still one of the most popular Costa Rica beaches. It features a boardwalk, many restaurants and hotels. It is the most industrialized of the Costa Rica beaches, and has several marinas and commercial fishing operations.

The southern most part of the Pacific Coast features several small but popular Coast Rica beaches. This area is well preserved and is the site of the nation’s largest national park, Corcovado. Corcovado beach features rain forest tours, diving and sea kayaking. Isla de Cano, an Indian burial ground site, is nearby. Golfito is also a Southern Pacific Costa Rica beach. It is located on the inner rim of Golfo Dulce. This Costa Rica beach is home to many isolated hotels and lodges hidden among the lush tropical rainforest.
