Save Money on Your Vacation to Mexico *Picture*
By:Lorraine Weston

If you’re dreaming of vacationing in a tropical place, with warm sun, beaches and good food, start planning your vacation to Mexico. The country of Mexico has much to offer to tourists, and you’ll never run out of places to explore, or places to relax! The best part is that you don’t have to go into debt to have a wonderful holiday.

Last-minute plans are always the most expensive, so start planning your vacation to Mexico a few months before you want to leave. You can find inexpensive airfares online or through a local travel agent if you book more than a month ahead of time. Even if a resort seems way out of your price range, you would be surprised to find that many resorts offer excellent packages during their off-seasons, when they want to attract tourists. Some places let children under 18 stay free, so if you’re considering bringing the whole family, check out one of these resorts.

If the location you are thinking of visiting is very remote, you may want to choose another town – transportation can get quite costly, and you don’t want to be held back from going places just because the cost of a taxi or bus is too much. It’s best to stay in a spot where you can travel on foot to nearby attractions. It will also allow you to experience Mexico up close and at a slower pace, since you won’t be racing by everything in a vehicle.

Visiting restaurants and buying souvenirs are two of the biggest ways that you can end up spending more money than you want to. Decide before you go that, if you are not staying at a resort, you will make some of your meals while you are on vacation. If you do this, you’ll not only save money, but you’ll enjoy your meals that you do eat at restaurants that much more, since you won’t be tired of eating out. Buying food at a grocery store or market can also be healthier for you, as you can choose fruits and vegetables to give you the energy you need for sightseeing!

When you are out sightseeing, you will eventually wander into a shop or market that offers lots of great souvenirs. Be careful: this is when you need to take your time. Look around carefully at all of the items offered before deciding to purchase something. Think about whether the price the merchant is asking is too high. If it is, you may be able to find the same item at a better price. Even if you are tempted to buy something for all of your friends and relatives, you will be happier, and they will too, if you save your money and don’t get into debt. Bring a small suitcase if you are tempted to buy lots of souvenirs; that way, you won’t buy them because you won’t have room to bring them home!
