Youth Hostels in Montevideo, Uruguay

Uruguay's capital, Montevideo, sits at the mouth of the Plata river, about 130 miles east of Buenos Aires. The Old City or Ciudad Viejos, with its colonial architecture, cathedrals, museums and palaces, puts travelers in the midst of history, while Pocitos and the inner city are full of contemporary attractions. Hostels bridge all three areas.

Planet Hostel
In the central area of the city, between the historic Old City and Pocitos, Planet Hostel allows for easy exploration of the most popular attractions. The hostel's many common areas include a terrace, TV room, 2 kitchens, and a dining room, and make it easy to get to know other travelers. Using the kitchen and barbecue here can help save travelers money. Rooms range from double, triple and quadruple privates to a 6-person dorm. There is free WIFI throughout the hostel, a free breakfast, 24-hour reception and no curfew. Check-in and check-out is at noon.

Punto Berro Hostel
About 15 minutes from the city's center, the Punto Berro Hostel in Pocitos opens onto the most densely-populated area of the city, with beaches, nightlife, restaurants and shopping. Rooms range from private doubles with cable-TV and air conditioning, but no private bathroom, to 2, 4 and 6-person dorms with air conditioning and lockers. Women may choose female-only dorms. A TV room, bar and patio make it easy to meet others and talk about your travels. Free amenities include WIFI, breakfast and yoga classes. Check-in is at 11a.m. and check-out is at 10 a.m.

In the Old City's famous square, Plaza Constitution, this hostel sits in the midst of historical sites, restaurants, cafes, artisan shops and the nightlife of the city.
