Brazil is a large country that requires adequate transportation to see everything it has to offer. There are a variety of options available to visitors traveling through the country. It is important to research each option thoroughly and choose the travel method that works with the time you have available and your budget for the trip.

Consider using Brazil's budget airline network to fully experience the country and all it has to offer. A journey deep into the interior of the country usually requires a flight at some stage. The airlines, TAM, BR, Gol and Varig, offer a variety of routes, times and prices. The airlines have desks at shopping malls and airports where you can book your travels. Travel agents and sometimes even hotel staff members can help you book flights as well. Consider buying a bargain TAM or Varig air pass prior to arrival that will provide you with a pre-set number of flights based on destinations or mileage. This pass is available to foreigners only.

Use an economy bus for transportation to a nearby city. The value of the buses is decent and they are usually reasonably comfortable. Be aware that the bus ride can be long and bumpy. The distances between cities can make the bus ride seem never ending and the pothole-filled roads can make it a little uncomfortable.

Rely on taxis for travel within a city. The price can add up, so plan your activities based on location, so only one taxi trip is required.

Rent a car if you are looking for a more independent way to see the country. Be aware that car rentals are expensive and the driving distance between cities is vast. Some travelers also do not feel comfortable enough with local transportation laws. Brazilian drivers are aggressive and the laws are only followed loosely.
