If you’re lucky enough to be able to spend some time in Venezuela, it's an absolute must that you take in some of the beautiful natural sites and attractions. There are many scenic areas of this country that almost seem to be taken directly out of a painting or a picture postcard. If you plan on visiting Venezuela, or if you have plans to live there for a short or extended period of time, here are a few attractions that you simply won't want to miss seeing.

Angel Falls

The beautiful natural attraction of Angel Falls was accidentally discovered in 1935 by an American aviator. While flying over the area, he landed his plan at the top of a mountain, intent on searching for gold. Although his plane got stuck in the bog as a result of his ill-planned landing, he did manage to discover this beautiful and impressive waterfall. To this day, the aviator's rusted plane remains on the mountain. Although "Angel Falls" might sound angelic, it's actually just a case of the aviator naming the falls after himself, since his name was Jimmy Angel. Of course, this "discovery" wasn't really a discovery at all, since the natives of the country always knew the falls existed. It's the highest waterfall in the world, with a total drop of an impressive 3,212 feet.

Salto Aponguao

If you're up for a bit of a journey, you might also want to visit Salto Aponguao, yet another impressive waterfall in Venezuela. However, this trip isn't exactly for the faint of heart. Viewing this waterfall generally requires leaving the highway, traveling an unpaved road, and then hiring a local to transport you the rest of the way via a dugout canoe. However, once you've finally reached the falls, you'll undoubtedly agree that the trip was worth the time and effort. The view is absolutely spectacular, and there are also natural pools around the base of the falls where you can swim or wade. You might also want to spend some time at a nearby camping ground so that you can enjoy the beauty of the landscape and the falls for just a while longer. Many people feel that Salto Aponguao is one of the world's most beautiful and photogenic waterfalls. It's a sight that should not be missed during your visit, even if it is a bit challenging to get to.

Isla Margarita

Approximately forty miles off the shore of Barcelona / Puerto la Cruz you'll find Margarita Island. This warm island maintains a temperature averaging in the low 80s, with a semi-desert, dry climate. The temperatures in this area are very consistent, due to the fact that it's so close to the equator. The scenery is quite spectacular on Margarita Island, with a great view of the mountains. If you're looking for a quaint area that is a bit off the beaten path, this is the perfect place to visit. You can enjoy quaint villages, historic sites and large expanses of beautiful and undeveloped landscape.
