How to Travel to Chile & Argentina
By:Angela Johnson

Argentina and Chile are located on the southern tip of South America. The countries border each other with the Andes mountain range in between. Traveling to both countries in one trip is common because of the closeness in range and frequency of flights. The most common way to travel to Argentina and Chile is by air. Flights arrive the most frequently into Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santiago, Chile. Geographically diverse, Argentina and Chile have a wide range of sites from glaciers to beaches so one can see many types of attractions when visiting this region.

Research the regions you are interested in visiting. Narrow your points of interests to the amount of time you have to travel to Argentina and Chile in total. Usually two to three days in one location is common. This allows you to visit attractions in each area and enough time to experience the culture.

Visit the Argentina and Chile tourism office websites for traveling tips to these countries. The tourism offices usually have literature that can be mailed. These can include brochures and travel information for free.

Create an itinerary which includes each destination or stop that you would like to include. This can be accomplished by outlining the amount of days you would like to remain in each destination, numbering each line with Day One, Day Two, Day Three, etc... and factoring in the tours or attractions you would like to see during this time.

Book your travel arrangements either online or with a travel agent specializing in travel to South America. This includes your flights, hotels, car rentals, tours, and any travel in between cities by train, bus or other means of transportation that you would need tickets for.

Learn a few necessary phrases in Spanish such as "Do you speak English?" and "Where is the restroom?" and "How much does this cost?". These phrases can be very helpful when you do not have an interpreter present. Purchase an English-Spanish dictionary which will help translate words that you do not know.

Exchange money to Chilean and Argentine pesos before you travel. You can also use travelers checks which are traceable in case they are lost or stolen, whereas cash is not. Carrying your money in a secure location and not in your suitcase is advisable. You can also exchange currency at the airport when you arrive to each location as well as in large cities such as Santiago or Buenos Aires.
