German Language Structure - A Good Reason Why to Learn German
By:Max Sprechen

Ok, learning German may not be super easy, but it is not near as hard as some people think. The German Language has gotten a bad rap and some people bypass it for other languages like French or Spanish. But I'd like to impel upon those who are thinking of taking on a second language some good reasoning as to why learn German.

The German language is a structured and straight-forward language with mostly inflexible rules so its not like English where words can sound the same and be spelled differently or be spelled the same and sound differently. I'm just so glad I did not have to learn English as a second language, its really a lot harder than German to learn. The German words may look long and scary, but you just have to break them down as two or more different words combined together.

Once you get the hang of the German language, you start to enjoy and appreciate its uniqueness (especially compared to English). With German, its a lot easier to get a thought or meaning across with fewer words. I enjoy German when speaking in the "should have", or "could have" sense. The German language also has the "he would have had to have done something" sense, which is a little awkward in the English language, but easier in German. I guess that is why German is called the language of thinkers and poets. So don't let German scare you - it really plays by a nicely written rule book and for the most part sticks closely to it. There are not that many irregular verbs. The grammar, nouns and verbs behave according to a standard structure - you learn the German grammar and just a handful of words and you've pretty much got the German language down. Then all you need to do is build your vocabulary.

Well, I hope you now have decided to give German a shot. If you ask, "why learn German?", there are many other factors to consider. But German is certainly a mainstream European language and as the German speaking countries in central Europe continue to grow, the German language will continue to grow.

The best part about learning German is that the process can be a fun and adventurous experience. When you are learning German you can experience a very wonderful and rich culture and you'll realize that this culture has had a strong influence on a large part of the world. Many of the children's fairy tales we grew up with have German origins. Classical music composers such as Mozart, Wagner and Bach were German. Of course, I don't have to mention the German auto industry or German food, wines and beer. Now with the age of the internet, learning German is not reduced to sitting in a stale classroom.

Internet courses, such as www.Quick-Basic-German.info make learning German quick, fun and easy. Then, once you have nailed down the basics of German, I recommend you do what I did and go spend a few weeks or months in a German-speaking country and start enjoying all the richness and beauty of everything German. Herzlichen Glückwunsch beim Deutschlernen!
