How to Learn Russian Language Through Immersion
By:Goran Olsson

Learning Russian language can open new doors in your career and social life. There are several ways to learn the language, but it is advisable to learn Russian language by immersion. This is because learning any language through immersion is considered as the most effective method and it will help you to quickly become fluent in the Russian language.

There are several way to immerse yourself in a Russian language environment. For example, you can:

Join an exchange program and move to live with a Russian family in Russia.
Enroll in a local Russian language group in your hometown.
Listen to Russian speech downloaded from the Internet

The benefit of learning Russian language by immersion is that you have a higher chance of becoming fluent in speaking and writing as compared to learning a traditional class. Russian is one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn and you will need all the help you can get if you want to become fluent.

To learn Russian language, you will need to learn its Cyrillic alphabet. In addition, you must learn all the parts of Russian speech including the conversational skills, introductions and greetings. It should be easy for you to understand more complex skills once you have mastered the basic skills.

Repetition and practice plays a key role in becoming fluent in a new language. In a traditional class the teacher will spend a week or two teaching vocabularies and their past and present form. The students will only practice during class but once the teacher leaves the class the lesson is forgotten. You may revisit the topic the following day for a few minutes and before the final exam. As a result, you may learn how to write but you can not engage in a Russian conversation. This is why it is important to learn Russian language by immersion because you will have enough time to practice and learn.

Another feature of a Russian immersion program is that you will develop fluent listening skills. In a class structure students are required to listen to the teacher, watch videos or listen to their peers. However, there is room for errors when you are talking to your peers who are also learning the language unlike when you are talking to a native speaker. A native speaker knows the correct pronunciation and he can correct you when you make a mistake. The language you learn in a traditional class may not help you if you ever find yourself in Russia hence you may want to learn Russian language by immersion.

The best way to learn Russian vocabulary and grammar is by learning in a native environment. You will be exposed to the language continuously and by repeating it several times in a day you will have a higher chance of becoming fluent. In this case, you will be learning the language in a real situation rather than in a simulated situation. You can walk to the nearest supermarket and use the language and this will help you to learn the language quickly. This is not the same as learning the language in a class room structure.

To learn Russian Language by immersion, you do not have to go to Russia. There are other options which are as effective as learning the language in Russia. For instance, you can register for private classes offered by private tutors. These classes are small and the tutor can help very student personally. Alternatively, you can look for a native Russian who wants to learn your language and swap classes. This way you will get free Russian classes in exchange for teaching him or her native language. You may also want to join focus group online where you can meet your peers and assist each other in learning Russian.

Learning a new language is not easy, especially if you are above 14 years because you have already passed the stage when it is easy for the brain to acquire a new language. If you want to learn the new language quickly, you should consider learning in an immersion program. You can move to Russia or join a local program where you will be taught by a private teacher. This will increase your chances of becoming fluent in Russia because it is almost like learning in a native environment. The bottom line is that learning Russian language by immersion is more effective than learning in a traditional class.
