How to Learn Russian on DVD

According to Russnet.org, the Russian language is spoken by about 150 million Russian speaking people live in the Russian Federal Republic alone. Russian is also spoken in Central Asia and is also one of the five official languages of the United Nations. Russian language DVDs are practical tools for learning the Russian alphabet, vocabulary, conversational speech and proper pronunciation. Learn to speak and read the Russian language at home by watching interactive learning DVDs and movies on DVD.

Obtain a Russian language DVD with workbooks and flash cards. You may buy a Russian language DVD from a bookstore or from an online retailer. Public libraries also provide language DVDs, which can be borrowed at no cost. DVDs provide visual cues with the language for easier learning and recall. Learn the Cyrillic alphabet using the Russian language DVDs, workbooks and flash cards. Practice Russian by using the DVDs, and write Russian words using the Cyrillic alphabet as your learn them and review frequently with flash cards.

Watch movies on DVD with the language set to Russian and the subtitles to your native language. Also, watch movies on DVD with the subtitles in Russian and the movie set to your native language. Almost all movie DVDs are encoded with several different languages, including Russian. Insert a movie into your DVD player and press the "Setup" key on your DVD remote control. Next, select the "Language" and then Russian. Set subtitles to your native language or to Russian. Listening to movies on DVD in Russian will help you learn to correctly pronounce the words and use inflections. The visual reference provided by the movie will aid in understanding context and increase your Russian vocabulary.

Rent or buy books on DVD in your target language. Public libraries are a good source of interactive foreign language books on DVD. Find books on DVD that you are familiar with or have read in your native language. Practice reading aloud with the DVD.
