Cute and Useful German Love Phrases
By:Hans Muller

If you're of the opinion that spoken German sounds harsh know that, as with any other language, how German sounds essentially depends on how it's being spoken. To be realistic it can be just as romantic as any other language. Shown below is a brief insight into German love phrases. While the language might change in expressing your feelings, the emotions do stay the same. Here are some commonly used phrases that could help you with your German love talk.

* 'I love you' becomes 'Ich libe dich'.

* 'Do you?' becomes 'Sie auch?'

* 'I am thinking about marriage' is 'Ich bin über die Ehe denken'

Okay, so you haven't gotten to the stage where you're thinking about proposing marriage and if you've only just met someone, telling him/her that you're in love might not work that well anyway. Here are some words/phrases that you might want to practice that could help you in general.

* 'May we kiss?' is 'Dürfen wir küssen?'

* 'I like you' is 'Ich mag dich.'

* 'Will you go out with me?' is 'Willst du mit mir ausgehen?'

When you're learning love words or phrases in German bear in mind that literal translations of words don't always result in the right meaning. For instance, if you were to refer to a girl as 'hot' in German (using the literal translation) and referred to her as being 'heiss', you'd imply that she is hot in terms of temperature. This also works the same way when you're trying to translate German to English. For instance, in German when a girl is referred to as a 'Bombe', it translates into her being a bomb. While bombshell is the more suitable translation, adding the 'shell' to the German translation wouldn't work particularly well. The point being; relying on making word-to-word translations won't always work. Understand that expressing one's feeling in matters of the heart is just as difficult in all languages. If you're hoping to get on the good side of a German girl/guy, speaking German will surely increase your chances. Moving on, here are some phrases that could help simplify the process of your finding a date.

* 'May I have your phone number?' is 'Darf ich dein' Telefonnummer?'

* 'That's so funny' is 'Das ist so lustig.'

* 'Are you doing anything later?' is 'Machst du etwas später?'

Realize that a significant percentage of the German population has no problems conversing in English. So, although you don't necessarily have to learn German, if you're willing to do so you will feel more confident about your abilities. Speaking in German will also leave a positive impression on the people with whom you converse. Remember, if you're worried about making mistakes, know that they can serve as great ice-breakers with someone you've just met. Bear in mind that speaking in German only sounds harsh when the speaker is making it sound harsh. Besides, a person's body language also plays an important role in effective communication - all the more so in matters of the heart. What's important now is that you get a hold of some of the key phrases that you think can help. Then comes practice followed by implementation.
