Useful Spanish Phrases
By:Lucas W

When it comes to learning Spanish you usually can help yourself by learning some
useful phrases that you can use in the more common situations you will find yourself in
while speaking Spanish with fluent speakers of the language. I've compiled some of them
for you in hopes that you add a bit of a kick start as you learn Spanish.

In most of the phrases here I use the informal versions of the questions, just noting.

"Hello" is ¡Hola!
This should be the first word you actually learn and it's going to be used a lot, trust me.

"How are you? is ¿Cómo estás?
A friendly question often used after saying hello.

"Fine, and you? is Bien gracias, ¿y tú?
The usual follow up to asking how someone is.

"What's your name?" is ¿Cómo te llamas?
Learning someones name is important if you want to get to know them so use it

"I am ..." is Me llamo ...
Just replace ... with your name. Alternatively you may use Mi nombre es ...

"Where are you from? is ¿De dónde eres?
It's interesting to find out where the person your speaking Spanish to is from, as
you never know just where they picked up the language.

"I'm from ..." is Soy de ...
Just replace ... with where your from, simple as that!

"Pleased to meet you" is Mucho gusto Encantado
Fine for use in first time introductions.

"Good morning" is Buenos días
Use it before 11 a.m. and alittle while after couldn't hurt

"Good afternoon" is Buenas tardes
Between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. usually. It also can mean "Good evening"

"Good night" is Buenas noches
Use it after 6 p.m. and you'll be fine. This also can mean "Good evening"
during the transition between afternoon and night.

"Good bye" is Adiós
You could also use a more casual Hasta luego to say "See you later" or
Hasta mañana to say "See you tomorrow"

"Have a nice day!" is ¡Que pase un buen día!
You could also say "Good luck!" by saying ¡Buena suerte!
