6 Tips on How to Learn Spanish Quickly - How Can I Speak Spanish Faster Without Tension?
By:Alexis Roger

Generally, Spanish is considered as the easiest language to learn for a native English speaker. Why? First, 75% of the Spanish vocabulary comes from Latin and is quite similar to English's (60% of the English language comes from Latin). Second, in order to read correctly Spanish, you just need to pronounce every single letter written. Nevertheless, learning a foreign language always requires efforts and discipline, especially if you want to improve very fast. I'm going to share with you six useful and easy tips to start learning this beautiful language without stress or tension!

1) What's Your Goal?

The way you learn Spanish depends very much on your goals. Which Spanish do you want to speak? Are you going to practice it in Spain or in South America? Practicing Latin America Spanish verb tenses is a little easier. You don't need to learn the second person plural familiar form 'vosotros'. What is more, you don't have to pronounce the 'zeta'. How well do you want to speak Spanish? Do you want to practice everyday conversations? Do you need to learn Spanish just to write letters or read scientific journals?

2) Method and Activities

After setting your specific goals, think of different linguistic activities you can do in order to improve your Spanish. For example, if your job requires you to understand Spanish articles, engage yourself specifically in reading activities. If you plan to visit Peru, you would do best by choosing a method that teaches simple phrases to travel in this country.

3) Verbs and Verb Tenses

There are 14 Spanish verb tenses in Spanish. But learn first the verbs most useful with its tense in present, future and past (yo doy/I give, yo daré/I'll give, yo di/I gave). Practice them using simple questions and answers. With time you will be able to learn the other ones.

4) Entertainments

All those who have learned a foreign language fast would tell you that entertainment and fun are important to improve quickly. Try to watch movies with both English and Spanish subtitles. It will help you to get used to the accent. Try to sing Spanish songs as well!

5) Picture the new words

It is far better to learn visualizing the words than translate them to your own language. For example, if you want to memorize the verb 'disfrutar' (to enjoy) what can you do? That sounds like 'this fruit' in English. Imagine yourself enjoying your favorite fruit saying 'Dis frut Ahhh! I love it! I feel good! I enjoy it!'

6) Dictionary

A good dictionary will help you very much to build up your vocabulary and learn idioms too. What is a good dictionary? It depends on your goals! But, if you need to learn an everyday vocabulary, a small one is enough! Personally, I appreciate the Oxford Spanish dictionary. It gives a lot of examples.
