How to Learn Informal Korean
By:Gisela Chavez

Korean falls under the Ural-Altaic family of languages and is spoken by over 78 million people. The ability to communicate in a foreign language is a powerful tool and a useful skill for business and travel purposes. Learning to speak informal Korean can help you in everyday conversations with Koreans and can make travel to Korea more fluid and simple. Learn how to speak essential, informal Korean and add another language to your skill set.

Enroll in conversational Korean classes in a language school. Most language schools offer conversation classes that focus on idiomatic expressions and informalities in the language of study. These classes are less concerned with grammar and proper sentence structure, which is ideal for learning informal Korean.

Participate in a language exchange program with a Korean native speaker. Check with a local language school and inquire about Korean speakers who are interested in participating in a language exchange with a native English speaker. Language exchanges are informal sessions between two language students who take turns speaking in their native language. This practice can help to enhance your ability to speak informal Korean.

Host a Korean foreign exchange student. Check with local public schools that participate in foreign exchange programs. Speak in Korean as much as possible with the student to increase your exposure to informalities in the language.

Listen to Korean music and watch Korean films. Listen to music as you read the lyrics, and watch movies with subtitles on to learn idiomatic expressions and informal language. Most films and music do not use grammatically correct and formal language, so they make an ideal language tool for learning informal Korean.

Travel to Korea and stay for an extended period of time. Work as an English teacher, participate in a foreign exchange program or backpack across the country to expose yourself to as much of the language as possible. Interacting with people on a day-to-day basis will increase your knowledge of informal Korean quickly and effectively.
