Korean Air Luggage Rules
By:MichaelS

Korean Air follows all the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) baggage requirements when traveling from the United States, but the airline also has specific rules and requirements that vary slightly from other airlines. Because Korean Air has to follow the ever-evolving FAA regulations, it is important to check with Korean Air for any specific questions regarding luggage rules.

Check-In Allowances
Korean Air allows two bags of 23 kg (50 lbs.) per piece for travelers in economy class and two pieces of 32 kg (70 lbs.) per piece for Prestige and first-class travelers traveling routes to or from North, South and Central America for check-in baggage. For other routes, two pieces of 20 kg (45 lbs.) per piece for economy class, two pieces of 30 kg (66 lbs.) per piece for Prestige class and two pieces of 40 kg (88 lbs.) per piece for first class. Each bag should not exceed a size limit of 158 cm/62 inches, determined by measuring the height, depth and width of the package.

Carry-On Allowances
In economy class, one bag of 12 kg (25 lbs.) is allowed as well as an additional piece of baggage such as a purse, laptop bag or briefcase. The baggage should not exceed 115 cm/45 inches per piece. In Prestige and first class, two bags are allowed with a weight of 18 kg (40 lbs.) and not exceeding 115 cm/45 inches per piece.

Special Items
Korean Air makes exceptions for items that do not conform to the set of requirements listed above. These items may include, but are not limited to, golf clubs, surfboards, bicycles, pets and musical instruments. Korean Air suggests contacting its baggage services before traveling with these items so preparations can be made for the exceptional items.
