English schools in Japan

Kobe, Rokko Island
School:Canadian Academy

Canadian Academy is known as a leading international school in the region because of its fine facilities, its comprehensive and challenging learning program, its outstanding faculty and staff and because of the commitment of parents to being partners with the school in the education of their children.

Canadian Academy is a private international school approved by the Japanese Ministry of Education, accredited by the US-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and certified to award both the US high school and International Baccalaureate diplomas.

Programs:
Canadian Academy's secondary school maintains an advanced college-preparatory educational program in the English language. The US curriculum has been coordinated with the International Baccalaureate syllabus. In many subjects, students can choose to sit for either International Baccalaureate or Advanced Placement exams. For students in the ninth and tenth grades whose command of English is not yet sufficient to maintain them in regular college preparatory classes, two levels of English as a Second Language are available. All students are expected to join regular English classes prior to graduation.

Students:
The student body is made up of as many as 37 different nationalities with about 18% North American, 7% European, 57% Asian (including 23% Japanese) and 18% representing the rest of the world. Approximately 20 high school students live on campus in our dormitory. The current enrollment is approximately 785, with around 275 in the high school.

School services:
Canadian Academy's Gloucester House, one of only a few international dormitories in Asia, consists of four separate living units joined by a recreation and common area. Besides modern accommodations for the students, each 12-student unit includes a dorm parent apartment so that a family relationship can grow among students and their resident advisors. Although self-discipline is expected, students share in communal tasks and follow rules that are designed to promote respect for each person's welfare and property.Other school services include a modern cafeteria with seating for 300 students, a full size gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, badminton and indoor soccer, an elementary school mini gym which is also used for Karate, dancing, aerobics, and other movement activities, a fully equipped Universal-Gym weight room, two soccer fields, tennis courts, and an elementary school playground. In January 2008, the school will open a second theater, a second gymnasium, and an early learning center for our youngest students.

The school itself is ideally located in the residential area of Rokko Island, a modern urban center which also boasts a hospital, parks, shops, restaurants and other schools.
