International ESL Jobs

Japan

We are looking for native-level English teachers who wish to enrich the lives of elementary school students as an Assistant Language Teacher (also called Assistant English Teacher in Yokohama). The new school year will start in April 2015, and we will have positions throughout the southern portion of Yokohama city.

Positions are basically 5 days a week (Monday through Friday). Time at the school varies (with a school day being from 8:30 to 16:45 in most cases) while contracted working time is for less than 6 hours per day with plentiful break time within the school day.

The main duties of an ALT are to provide fun and effective English lessons and internationalize Japanese youth. It is important for ALTs to help bridge this gap by giving students first-hand knowledge and experience of different cultures, as well as providing fun and effective English lessons. Although teaching is an important part of the job, essentially teachers get to play and have fun with students and get paid for it as part of the job! Many teachers play sports and games during recess, or visit sports or music clubs after school.

The conditions for Yokohama ALT positions are as follows:

*April 2015-March 2016
*250,000 yen per month for at least 8 of the months (Exceptions: August may be all or mostly holiday and pays a stipend of 150,000 yen. If April, July, December, or March have 15 days or less in the original working schedule, these months will be paid at a daily rate of 13,000 yen per day, or the full monthly amount if more days are scheduled. However, even if 4 months or more other than August are 15 days or less, our policy is that a maximum of 3 would apply, and at most 3 months will pay the daily rate and the rest the full amount listed.)

Special conditions:

*For current ALTs wishing to continue in the same schools and with approval from those schools to be able to continue, should those teachers have current working conditions be more favorable than the above, we will honor the conditions of the previous company if proof is provided upon offering a position.
*There is capacity for a small number of ALTs (10%) to be offered higher salary conditions for working as a "Super ALT", requiring more experience and ability than most, if also wishing to be available to advise other ALTs and lead ALT meetings.

Basic Requirements:

- Native-level English ability
- Hold or be able to get a working visa before your starting date.
- Basic Japanese speaking ability (or at least a desire to learn) or otherwise good communication skill
- Some teaching experience or experience working with children
- Ability to be independent in obtaining appropriate housing convenient to the area. (We can give advice, but not assistance.)
- Enrollment in Japan's national health insurance
- Ability to be present for training/orientation before starting

*Although some of these are not strict requirements, those who meet these requirements will be given preference.

Benefits:

- Visa sponsorship available
- No limit on contract renewals
- Company coordinators always available to help with issues between teachers and schools.
- Veteran ALTs who have certain qualities can be considered in future contract years for advancement within the company or to be introduced to a position outside the ALT field.

Please contact us as soon as possible for consideration. We are looking to recruit a large number of ALTs and look forward to your contact even if some time after this advertisement is placed. We look forward to hearing from you!
