International ESL Jobs

Gmunden, Graz, Vienna in Austria
By:ABCi- Austrian Bilingual Classroom Initiative <emma.brankley@abci-english.at>
Date: 26 January 2015

NATURE OF THE WORK: The trainee will teach English to German-speaking students from the ages of 8 to 15 for a not-for-profit organization headquartered in the Austrian Lake District in Austria, the region made famous by the “Sound of Music” movie. Bilingual education has become increasingly popular in Austrian secondary schools and ABCi has recently launched a major effort to expand their outreach program. ABCi has a special focus on bringing free English lessons to rural and often otherwise overlooked children in the alpine region. Teaching takes place in different schools during in-school projects and via an online VLE, necessitating travel in and around Austria. In addition, the successful applicant will be given experience in the administration of a NGO in the education sector by taking part in project work and program development at ABCi headquarters. The trainee is provided with training in teaching English as a foreign language, project work, feedback from a senior teacher, full room and board with internet access, travel costs, evenings, weekends and Austrian public holidays free. At the conclusion of the intensive ESL training program and trainee placement, the successful candidate will be awarded with a TEFL Certificate for Young Learners (which includes 24 hours of teacher training seminars and 48 observed teaching hours). Course Dates: 6th April 2015 to 1st August and 24th August to 24th December 2015

ORGANISATION PROFILE: ABCi is an Austrian NGO bringing together Austrian children and English native-speaking volunteers to form a bilingual learning environment by means of linguistic immersion, cultural exchange and foreign sports that promotes the use of English in Austrian classrooms and will provide every child in Austria with an English project day including elements of language, culture and sport by the year 2020. ABCi also aims to provide in-service CLIL training for all interested teachers in Austria, fair wages for our staff, and professional development for our trainees. ABCi encourages students to become supporting members of the association while fostering ties with government, community and business leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will speak English at a native speaker level of fluency and have a teaching certification or experience working with children. Candidates with experience in a non-traditional teaching environment such as summer camps, youth groups or outdoor education will be preferred. Candidates selected for this position will be subjected to a background investigation.

TO APPLY: If your experience and aspirations match our requirements, email a cover letter and Curriculum Vitae to human.resources@abci-english.at. The closing date for applications is 12th March 2015.

The successful applicant will be provided with accommodation during work periods and generous holiday time for Austrian public holidays. Work-related travel costs, food and accommodations are covered. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first served basis.
