Position Summary
The ESL Instructor’s primary function will be teaching English to the Laotian doctors and nurses and administrative staff of Lao Friends Hospital for Children in Luang Prabang, Laos. The ESL Instructor will prepare appropriate lesson plans adapted for local culture to teach students how to speak, read and write in English, and how to comprehend spoken English. In addition, the ESL Instructor will monitor each student’s progress, updating and distributing quarterly progress reports.

Role specification
• Teaching English to the Laotian doctors and nurses and administrative staff of LFHC
• Create curriculum and lesson plans adapted for local culture to teach students English skills in speaking, reading writing, and general comprehension, according to the appropriate level of each student.
• Monitoring each student’s progress, updating and distributing quarterly progress reports.
• Administering student registers and attendance records.
• Preparing and setting examination to evaluate the level of students.
• Inspiring comfortableness and confidence in dealing with English.
• Cataloguing and maintaining library resources.

Skills/qualifications
• ESL or TESOL certification, required
• 2-5 years’ experience teaching abroad, preferred
• Education and training with a focus on teaching adults, preferred
• Proficient in classroom management with a flexible teaching style that adapts to varied student needs
• Basic administration knowledge, such as keeping student registers and attendance records
• Experience preparing and setting tests, examination papers, and exercises
• Knowledge of Laotian people and culture (or of Southeast Asia), preferred
• Familiarity with medical terminology, a plus
• Ability to interact with people from various countries and backgrounds with tact, diplomacy and poise
• Demonstrated leadership, strong organizational skills, integrity, and a confidence–inspiring attitude
