Where else are you going to teach in Asia?
China? Too many schools there can't legally hire you on.

Thailand? There you'll find mostly apthetic students and a stone-age education system. And you'll also find mediocre pay at best. You can save money in Thailand, but one currency-value shock can cost you big.

Japan? At most jobs there you'll work a year and maybe save 2000 bucks if you're lucky.

Laos? Cambodia? Better get used to teaching in shacks and eating rock soup or something as appetizing.

Westerners prefer to teach in SK because it's a modern, 'developed' country that pays well. Emphasis on 'pays well'. But not only does it pay well, one can save money there.

The South Koreans view foreign teachers as western rejects taking advantage of its high pay and milking the SK education system for all its worth. In other words, there is a good reason for their unfriendliness.

If you leave SK, there are probably good paying jobs in Western Europe. But if you yourself don't have an EU passport, you'll need to have access to one (you'll need a relative who's an EU citizen). If you don't have an EU passport or a (very) close relative from the EU , you'll be going back to the west if you indeed want a good-paying job. No other teaching jobs in Asia are like those in SK--jobs that offer high pay coupled with a relatively low cost of living that allow one to save $$. Some places in Japan MIGHT be good. Check out Japan. From what I've heard, the cost of living is too high to justify going.
