Re: to all the HOT HEADS...about dating in china

I'm very happy that we got that sorted out! I've been here just over two years, and unlike many (most) foreigners, I hang out with and have all Chinese friends. I'm quite amazed at some of the comments about relationships especially remarks about having deep or intellectual discussions with your Chinese "girlfriends". Almost all the females that I know are powerful, thoughtful and thoroughly modern women. They have fine minds and strong opinions about themselves and how they want to live their lives. Some are not the greatest English speakers, nor am I fluent in Chinese (yet). It's still possible to communicate. One of the dearest women in my life speaks very little English but we often spend 24 hours together and are happy and content with each others company.
They are mentally aware and physically beautiful. I'm a very satisfied man to have so many wonderful girls to spend my time with. And they are really fun to be with!

Re: to all the HOT HEADS...about dating in china

Thank you for trying to understand. You seem to be a very open minded person and your opinions are appreciated. I am truely sorry for the middle aged thing. I am tecnically middle aged too i guess, but i am not talking about myself. I have actually seen a couple young losers here just out for a good "roll in the hay" so to speak. It is disgusting when the other person gets left here to think about the mistake they made trusting a foreigner. Also bad for the teachers that follow.

Im glad you have an honest friend, that trusts & respects you here in CHina. Im sure it makes your life here easier to have her as a friend. If you have been in China a while, though, you will be aware of how respect works for Chinese people. Many times my friends/students say what they think I want to hear. It is out of respect & friendship that they do this. I guess I have been here too long because this is totally acceptable to me now. Its the right way of doing things here.

Cheers. Good Luck In China. Hope you are happy for as long as you are here.

Ahhhh, Miss Tick ... in your inimitable, didactic fashion, you have once again targeted in on the truth -- in this case, pertaining to the Seorita Xi issue. Sorry about my having originally missed the "female cue," but, now that I am cognizant of that datum, I can fathom a lot more about this character than I once did. Thank you for the knowledge. You are, indeed, my favorite of the ESL Board's contributors, whilst I shall anxiously await additional examples of your well-developed blend of veracity with just the right amount of sarcasm.

My BIG gripe with your post is this continuing use of the "middle aged" label! Ther MUST be some disgusting young men (and women) in China as well. I'd really like to know what is in your mind when you use this label.
For example, last year I met a 22yo American girl who purposely and with forethought seduced a young Chinese man. Was that a disgusting act? No, the young man quite enjoyed the experience! But if a 40 yo American beds a 22 yo Chinese girl and she quite enjoys it, that gets labeled "disgusting". to all the HOT HEADS...about dating in china

> What do u mean by this??!!!!!

If you want to jump to conclusions so you can be angry & fight, PLEASE read all the messages, so you know what the conversation was about, at least.

If you are referring to the mention of Thailand & Phillipines...I was just saying that is where those types of men hang out. I was not making any judgements on the local women or people there...simply that it seems to be a hot spot for those type of men looking for wives.

AGAIN...I am not saying it is right. Im not saying I agree & think they should all go there & continue to treat women (anywhere, for that matter) badly. PLEASE REMEMBER I AM TALKING ABOUT A SPECIFIC TYPE OF PERSON (loser) HERE... NOT ALL MEN.

OH MY GOD...some of you are being very small-minded. You cannot even think for a minute that my opinion may have had another purpose. Please don't always jump to the conclusion that makes you want to fight.

There are some disgusting middle aged men in China now that are an embarrassment to us all. They abuse women and they hide under the cover of being a teacher. We have even seen postings about it here recently. It is sad & I wish there was a way to stop it. For the most part, people in China are very intuitive, but some haven't met enough foreigners to see the difference. This is a serious problem and if those types of men are reading these messages, hopefully they will realize that we know their types. Maybe the will not be so confident thinking they can get away with it. The trouble is...when they do actually get away with it in the beginning, it gives them courage to do more. The result is not pretty.

If you would kindly go back to read my original message...there were some positive points about being & dating in China. For the honest people, its totally possible to find happiness. You can live a great life here. There are amazing people all over the world.

If you are concerned about this:
> DONT COME TO CHINA WITH THE SOLE PURPOSE OF FINDING A WIFE.

My point is similar to another posting on this topic. If you come here ONLY to find a wife then you could end up frustrated & more alone. If you want to be a teacher & experience life here then you will be in for a great time. If you happen to find love or companionship in China while you are here, even better. But if you come for only one thing, you will end up hurt if you don't find it. It goes the same for lonely people anywhere. You can make your life meaningful doing lots of things.
if you are already content with yourself, its far more likely that you will find a great relationship. No one is attracted to desperation.

TO THE ORIGINAL "China Bound"...(if you are still reading this)

Dating in CHina is like dating anywhere. Its new , exciting & gives you butterflies in your stomach...just like at home. It is challenging at times to communicate the deeper feelings & have them totally understood, but if its worth it, you will find a way to make it work.

I have found that the local people find it a bit strange for a bf & gf to be far apart in age. Also, beware of the possibilities of being used as a free teacher, or a cool foreign "friend", as a status symbol. Be open minded and both of you really try to understand what the other is thinking about the relationship. If its right....then just enjoy it.

Re: ...in a meaningful relationship in china-Dear George

Dear Dimwit:

You do sound like an honest person. Im glad you are happy here. I hope you realize that i did mention i know both types of middle aged people here that have relationships. The healthy & dangerous ones.

I never said that "ALL mid age and older people are losers" without "feelings and desires". I was trying to point out that some of us DO have meaningful relationships here.

The bottom line is, if you do have a good heart, (most) people here will see that, and age, looks, size, or skin color won't matter for long.

The same goes for the losers out there...people will see you for what you are, too. I have found the same thing here about age barriers, or lack thereof, to be exact.

BTW...I am no where near a "youngster", as you say. (Although there are times I wish i were. ha ha ha)

Are you saying that Thai women are???

Please accept my apology, (and not just because you commanded me to do so) if it seemed I was implying anything about the women in Thailand or the Phillipines. I was only stating thats where alot of those creepy losers go & end up treating women there very badly. Its just as disgusting, but from what I have seen on TV & heard, it is a common place for them to settle. (Poor women there.) AGAIN...I was not commenting on the local people, just that perhaps the losers would feel more comfortable amongst others of their sort. It is a well known fact that those types commonly hang out Thailand & Phillipines.

Not only George but the other "youngsters" seem to have the erroneous idea that people (men or women) who are over 40 are not just as interested in having "meaningful relationships" as you who are young. One of the nice things about China as I stated in my original post is that there doesn't seem to be such age discrimination here. Let me assure you that all mid age and older people are NOT losers and we do have feelings and desires. The Chinese women/girls that I spend my time with value me as a person and don't look at my age as any sort of barrier to whatever relationship we have.
I like being in China and am here because I choose to be, not because I am a "loser" and am escaping from somewhere else!

XI, do you realize what you are saying? You are saying that only losers would go to China. Do you realize what that says about your opinion of China? My wife and I have been happily married for over a year now and here is what I realized - we all have one person in this world that we are meant for and who is meant for us. It was certainly worth going to China for me to find her - though that is not why I went.

...in a meaningful relationship in china

DONT COME TO CHINA WITH THE SOLE PURPOSE OF FINDING A WIFE.

I see that we are all assuming you are male. Sorry. Please clarify if are you male or female.

Dating in China is possible if you are realistic. Don't expect to have a 20 yr old gf / slave. If you are looking for this, then everyone will see through you & you will end up being frustrated, unhappy, and end up in alot of trouble (maybe even not getting out alive or in one peice).

I have to agree

Although I don't particularly like your attitude to foreigners in general, (assuming we are all one & the same)...

...I have to agree that the middle aged men who admittedly come to China looking for a wife/girlfriend should NOT be encouraged to come here under the disguise of a teacher. I have seen the worst possible of these & it was not pretty for any of us, foreigners OR local girls. I am personally ashamed to call myself Canadian in front of the students that knew this man.

TRUE, about how smart most Chinese girls are in predicting what kind of man you are. Sadly though, there are still a few girls here that are looking for an easy ticket to another country.

Perhaps not all these middle aged men coming here expect to find an 18-20yr old "slave" to satisfy all their needs. (Though I must say I hope those that do, die & rot in hell) Maybe some are true. If you are truely a good guy, looking for a life partner, please be realistic & honest with yourself & the women you meet.

PS...the advice about not dating students or fellow teachers is GREAT. The part about it ending at any time...also a fact. Don't exploit the overly trusting young females you meet. Many of them are really not ready & totally unaware of what you are thinking.

Chinese women/girls are terrific! They don't have the hang-up's and the me first attitude of many western women. They are in my eyes quite beautiful with fantastic figures and lovely skin. You will find them easy to meet (sorry Moon) and interesting as people. If you have a good attitude you will have all the female company you can handle.

China bound, here's a tip for you: the probability of finding a young/good looking suitable chinese girlfriend be practically impossible. Save your money and your sanity, too many drunks/insane teachers around. Enjoy any relation while it lasts, but understand that it could end at any time.

I am 50 years old and I went to China when I was 46. I have lived there most of the past four years. My wife, who is Chinese , and I are now living in Seoul. I met her in China two years ago. We got married last year. I didn't go there to get married, but I am happy the way it worked out. :)

don't date your students, try not to date your colleagues (if you are a teacher). don't spend you hard earned money dating, if she likes you, she'll help you save money (an old Chinese tradition). don't promise after one day you know her, "I'll take you with me home, America/Canada". Keep your TWO feets on the ground; Just a temporary FANTASY.
