Zac, you don't have the faintest idea of what a real man is. Very few of your posts have made much sense. You have either been obscure or a name-caller. It is too difficult to stay away from your posts since I like reading something that makes very little sense - it makes me feel there is still a great need for good teachers to see such ignorant posts as the ones you have made.

I am looking forward to what I can expect will be another name-calling post from you.

Booty man, mind your own business. J.R. is a Loooooooooooooser and you too. It really doesn't matter the age difference. Sad excuse for mediocre losers. Next time tell people that you come from anywhere but home. My piece of advice: Stay the f888 away from my discussions in this site.

A real man - always wondered what is meant by that phrase. It seems to mean to you Zac someone who will get themselves thrown in jail which certainly isn't doing the wife any good. There is a higher degree of responsibility with a wife than a girl friend, Zac, and though I'd die for my wife if it would protect her, I don't see where getting yourself thrown in jail helps.

A real man is one who puts the needs of his wife first. My definition.

Right on, JR. It is very difficult for me to believe that John and Jane taught in China for eight years and yet learned so little.
My wife is Chinese, JR, and our situation has been similar to yours in the love and trust area. We have not yet returned together to the USA so I don't know what will happen here. But in China we have been treated very well by all concerned

You leave John's mum out of this. I took my Japanese girlfriend home: No problem at all. If anyone harass her, I choose to go to jail rather than whining about it. A woman needs a real man.

My wife (Thai) and I have been married since 2001. I'm gonna say you're totally wrong. I brought my pretty wife home and horses**t like you harassed me and my wife all day - in restaurants, bars you name it. I could kick my own butt for not really understand the pain I put my wife throught by returning home. I won't put her throught this again. I have hurt her so bad. Re: helping anne wang

> thanks, but no thanks. japan is better, pay and "fun"

China is fun, too, Zac, and the pay is the best I have ever received(taking into consideration the differences in the cost of living) of the four countries I have taught in.

Of course, pay isn't everything- I just turned down a job in South Korea that would have been the best-paying job I would ever have had. I did this because my wife had a job elsewhere in Korea and I didn't want to be separated.

Love is first. Fun is second(though the first includes a lot of the second). Pay is a distant third.

Enjoy Japan, Zac.

Anne, even if those people have done you some wrongs, there are ways to respond to criticisms constructively without resulting to personal attacks. By reacting the way you do now, will only send negative signals about you.

Criticisms and challenges are parts of our normal lives so we must learn to deal with them constructively. Maybe you should control your emotions.

This is my opinion, youve the rights to agree or disagree.

No problem, I make all my insulting post on other forums, LOL.

I too think I am going to enjoy Asia, I visited Jakarta very briefly in about 1986, I was in Malaysia and Thailand in 1995 and living in Australia from 1984-1995 I met many, many Asians from all different places.

After eight years I find that the lifestyle here in Latin America is too "relaxed" for me, there is a definite lack of initiative and a sense of blaming everything on the US. What I like about Asia is the fact that people aren't ashamed to chase a dollar, there seems to be a great capitalist work ethic. As I get a bit older and want to be able to provide somethng for my kids, I have found that a lazy lifestyle of "maana" or "she'll be right" is more boring than relaxing.

I need a bit of get up and go-go-go.

Mike, thank-you for finally writing a post that doesn't insult someone, or descent to name calling! There has been far too much of that lately here.

I agree with what you say, I wrote something similar a little while ago. Every country has good and bad points. It is just a matter of finding one that suits your taste. Myself I like Asia, it is far more disorganized than the west, but (to me) much more dynamic and exciting. It is on the up and up. That rather suits my style. Other disagree of course!

Re: helping anne wang

I wasn't wrong about you (mr.eddie lee) being an unscrupulous man, wasnt I? You posted here under a different name ( Jiumin a) and in another as eddie lee. This really says so much for you. If you were to be honest gentlemen, I, or rather people in here do not see a need for you to hide your identity.

HUH! SPEAKING OF YOUR STUDENTS WITH IDENTITY PROBLEMS. You are making a laughing stock of yourself. You can probably guess the reason why I type you name in small letters; you have an identity problem yourself.

The reason you came after me is obvious. You are frightened when women in China speak out. You're frightened of being overshadowed by Chinese women. You are frightened of the day when Chinese women like me come up top, and there is no place for you in society. You are frightened that you may not be able to find your identity when in the company of Chinese women. You are frightened to admit that you are inferior to some Chinese women like me. You aint seen nothing yet, there's still more to come from Chinese women like me out there.

In you mind, you must be thinking that it would be safer for men like you if we revert to the days of feudalism where women; like me could only been seen and not be heard.

You chauvinist pig. You expect women to submit and be cowed easily by man. How wrong you are, I am different, I am a strong willed Chinese woman and I can stand on my own two feet.

Unlike you, I don't need to call upon others to take you on. I will not be cowed into submission easily. I'm here to stay, and will be here to haunt you. Meantime, Im going to sit me pretty butt in here and enjoy me self. Cheers

Re: helping anne wang

This was a very interesting point of view, of course I don't know Anne so I wouldn't dare comment if it applies to her.

There is a similar type of syndrome for the foreign teachers, as well. I know, because I used to suffer from it myself.

The teacher feels angry against his/her own society, probably his/her own family as well and wants to leave behind everything bad he/she sees in the world he/she knows. The teacher gets the qualifications needed, goes on a vacation and quickly finds a place that is "different." He/she finds a job, meets some local people, makes friends and quite often forms an emotional relationship. Marriage often follows.

But then...

Once the initial cultural adaptation wears off, or the teacher finds him/herself settled into the new life, the eyes open and the teacher now sees that their new home has just as many problems, albeit different ones, that they wanted to escape.

Anyway, as noted above I went through a similar process, I have seen it happen to many many teachers, plus I have seen situations like the OP described among a few students here in Latin America, at the end of the day we all wake up to the fact that we are who we are, and if we want to change let's all try and change for the better.

(If you read this far, thank you.) Sorry for the long post ;)

Anne Wang was verbally and unfairly attacked several times before she resorted to the same sorts of attacks she was victim of. It doesn't excuse her, but she was NOT the instigator and - in all fair ness- that needs to be mentioned here.

Anne, when you were first insulted, you took the high road in your responses. I would suggest going back to that high road- I know from personal experience it is not easy, but, if you sink to their level, these verbal terrorists win. And you shouldn't let them do that.

I must be lost in this thread somewhere because I don't see how this fits in with any of the previous statements. But, if it is an attempt at blasting so-called May-december Asian-Western relationships, well the divorce rate among Caucasians is the highest in the world. So far my wife and I have lasted two year - and are the absolute life's best friends we were then - and she hasn't even been to America yet - and neither one of us really wants to go - we are happy to be both employed in south Korea- where we can work most freely and profitably together teaching English. Lots of jealousy and misstatements regarding Asian-American May-December relationships from those not involved in one.

As for students having problems with families and not being able to send them for further studies. It is from you own conclusion. Moreover, how do you expect parents to send their children abroad when unscrupulous people like you have milk every penny that they have had.

Wake up, do you think that farmers are planting or growing money trees, or raising golden goose.

Answer )
Your students have no friends? I'm 101% sure that they can do without an unscrupulous friend like you.

You mean you set up an English school to teach Chinglish?

So I bet your ads goes like this,

***A New English Language School is excepting registrations from new students. We have specially flown in American teachers to teach Chinglish. All applicants will be accepted; no one will be turn away.

Our rules and regulations is simple,

Students are not allowed to speak in English and listening to English music is forbidden in our school.***

You are a joke.

Don't we Chinese ever curse in our own language? Swear words in Chinese have been heard on own national TV. Oh, I bet you think highly of yourself as an ANGEL. Up you Ar_e. Go set up a Chinese school, instead.

Ohhh thanks for complementing me on me creativity. I'm really flattered.

Hey, its the in thing.

If you are against all these, you should write in to our government and tell them to close our doors to the whole world. I can bet my life on it that you won't, for the fact that you are exploiting Foreigner teachers and using their presence to rip off ignorant parents and students.

You are saying that you and your family has never ever used or consumed any foreign goods? What about your foreign teachers, your foreign teachers are foreign products that you are using as baits to rip students off

Aren't foreign teachers one of the in thing.

I suggest you go take a good hard look at yourself in the mirror; you are not making any sense here.

You are saying that Chinese teachers feel bad because they are always going to be second-rate teachers by making half or less than any native speakers.

Then I guest Americans, British, Canadians, Australians and other teachers in their respective countries do have the same feeling, isn't it? Don't they have foreign teachers in their countries? If you need foreign expertise, you have to pay the price for it.

If you want to end resentment among Chinese teachers, try paying peanuts to foreign teachers from the above countries.
I can bet you that the Americans will send Bison, British will send Bulldogs, Canadians will send Beavers, Australian will send Kangaroos or Koalas and New Zealand will send Kiwis to your school to teach English.

Thank you for not crucifying me until now.

Hey A_ sh_ l e, read some the threads carefully, did or did not Solomon, Boots43 and DoS reprimand me for using vulgarities. You are another idiot who simply can't read or understand English.

I told them that I would take the chill pill and keep my emotions in check but by reading all these craps that you have written, I can't help but retort to it. By the devil I was tempted.

I said this before to Mr. Joe Lee, I am a girl (oooohhhhh shocking, isn't it?) I can stand on my own two feet and fight like a man.

I find it shocking and appalling for a man (an owner of a school) of your nature, who practically has no understanding of English coming in here with such a post.

You are a scumbag, worse that my swearing and cursing.
You set up a school to rip off ignorant students and yet still have the guts to bad mouth them and their parents.

That goes to say so much of yourself. Go take you school and shaft up your you know where.

What do you mean? a fake wife,
After a couple of months in the land of the free, she discovers that youre old, fat, incredibly unattractive, blah, blah. At the beginning tell her that you only want to be her lifes best friend. See how long you last around. Enjoy today's fireworks, doesn't last.

Best of luck, guys

helping anne wang

i am the owner of a midium size school in china. i wrote the other day about my new cameroonian teacher and filipinos. i give my teachers, whites and none whites the same conditions and salaries. sorry for the rush, i'm very busy, english is not my 1st language, i'll do my best to express.
i see in anne wang the common symptoms of some former troubled chinese students at my school. we have chinese students that dislike anybody that does not look like a white english teacher, specially american. these chinese students complaint all the time about the english chinese teachers and refer to them as idiots, etc. they seem to hate to live in china and be chinese. some of them even have problems with their own families because nobody speaks english at home or they can't afford to send them abroad to to study. these students have no friends, but only one other sometimes that thinks like them. they try to speak all the time in english and are very fond to learn to curse in english at other chinese. if you noticed anne has enough creativity to insult with nasty words on the internet using underscores and getting away with it. they practice this. their mind always work as chinese are not good and how to annoy and make them feel bad for who they are. they usally know more of what is happening abroad than china. they listen to english music only, color their hair, use contact lenses, they hate to see themselves in a mirror and look at somebody who look chinese, thier sleeping rooms is full of posters white none-chinese looking people, they dream with plastic surgeries to change the way the look, their face, eyeslids.etc. they feel bad because they know that no matter what they do, they always are going to look chinese and talk with some chinese accent. they also feel bad because in china they always going to be a second rated teacher making half or less than any native english speaker. the way the find to let their frustration out is by demaining others who are learning english and correcting them in a rude way.i not saying that anne is like the way i mentioned above, by the symptoms are so common. during the years i have more than 20 students with this identity problem coming to my office and tell me how bad they feel for be the way they are. i also keep in contact with other school owners and they have experiences with similar cases. sometimes the parents are the same as the students. just pretending, coursing at others in bad english. etc. maybe if you really want to help anne wang, do not support her writings here, but tell her that, get rid of her rage, using those bad words daily to refer to others, accepting who she is. i do understand your position as a native speaker in china, that you will open your heart to people like anne wang who pretend to like you immediately for no reason, but please be aware, that all her admiration towards you and other native teachers is just her way to keep her pattern of rage and hate for who she is, a chinese. about the african teachers, i dont think her problem is with them. the best for africans is to ignore anne wang.
