Much better to become a tradesman, in the West anyway. The West may be mostly fucked now, but at least younger people can still do alright financially if the have a trade background. There is still a shortage of plumbers, electricians, carpenters etc. Also needed are technicians to install air-conditioners and other appliances.

As for university, many uni graduates can't find jobs. Even if they do many just become corporate drones who are expendable and can be fired on a whim.

Teaching and journalism are two professions that don't have much of a future. Large media organizations are slashing jobs left right and centre.

It seems only the independent blokes who specialize in reporting from quirky or dangerous locations who are doing really well and produce quality stories.

As for commercial media in Australia, it's just rubbish these days. I hardly bother watching breakfast TV or nightly news and current affairs programs anymore. Often it's nothing but an advertorial disguised as a story.

Maybe the UK is similar.
