Kongsberg International School is a non-profit foundation established in 2002 by Kongsberg Gruppen ASA, FMC Kongsberg Subsea AS and Kongsberg Automotive ASA. The school opened in August 2003.
The purpose of the school is to serve Kongsberg and the surrounding communities by providing a high quality international education, based on the International Baccalaureate Program (www.ibo.org). Kongsberg International School is one of more than 2,122 IB schools in 125 countries.
KIS is fully authorised in the Primary Years Programme for students aged between 3 and 12 years and the Middle Years Programme for students aged between 12 and 16 years. This year Kongsberg Videregående School in partnership with KIS is also able to offer a fully authorized Diploma Programme for students from 16 years of age. These three programmes help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.
The language of instruction is English. However, all students also study the Norwegian language and culture and Spanish from Grade 4. Middle Years students are also able to choose French or German as an extra language.
