Welcome to The American School of The Hague, or “ASH” as it has been known for over fifty years. ASH offers a learner-centered, American curriculum modified for the needs of an international student and parent population. Our mission speaks for itself: “ASH educates students to excel in critical inquiry, creative thinking, clear communication, and commitment to others.” These are not just platitudes; they represent the filter through which all of us connected with the school, from the Trustees on down, process every decision we make.

Our student body is approximately 40% US and 10% Dutch, with the remaining 50% coming from over 60 other nationalities, mirroring the diversity of cultures that make The Hague such a rich environment. Although our instructional approach focuses on the close but respectful student-teacher relationships that characterize American education, our curriculum is broad enough—including Advanced Placement courses and the International Baccalaureate Diploma—to suit the needs of our diverse population. Our students come from the international business and diplomatic community for the most part, but our many Dutch families add a host country flavor to our multicultural mix. ASH believes in service to the community (it’s actually a requirement for graduation), and we recognize that The Hague’s image as the “world’s city of justice” is a standard ASH should rightly emulate.

Our School is comprised of 3 divisions – Elementary (from Preschool through Grade 4), Middle (Grades 5-8), and High School (Grades 9-12). ASH believes in self-renewal and searching out best practices so that our students may participate in a rich, educational experience. Our students, in turn, are active, intelligent and creative learners. These positive attitudes unite us across all levels at ASH.
