Discover Important Tips on How to Relocate to Germany
By:Benny Horowitz

If you are going to relocate to Germany, there are a number of things you need to do. As with any move to another country, obtaining a visa and or a passport is the first step. The Federal Republic of Germany has special regulations for Americans; for everyone else they require a combination visa and residence/work permit if you're staying in Germany longer than three months. The Alien Office will contact the Labor Agency to decide whether to allow employment or not. If you do need a visa, you'll start the process by contacting the German consulate in your country.

German law requires you to have one of four reasons to relocate to Germany. You can obtain a permit for educational purposes, to obtain gainful employment, to open a business, or uniting family members. You are also required to show you can support yourself financially and that you have adequate health insurance that covers you in Germany. Health insurance that includes dental and childbirth benefits should be sufficient.

You will also need to obtain a residence permit before you can legally relocate to Germany. There are two types: Conditional/Temporary and Permanent permits. The temporary permit is the only one that allows you to later qualify for permanent residence.

One of the most important things you have to do is to prove you can support yourself. Germany wants you to be able to at least earn 745 Euro per month. If you're starting a business, you must be able to show you will add to the region's economy and employ at least five people.
There are several other things to think about before you relocate to Germany; employment, schools, shopping, cultural & lifestyle change and communicating with others. Start with the reason you want to move to Germany and then move on to the other questions.

When you've received your papers, visited the area for at least 4 weeks, obtained housing, enrolled your children in school, don't forget that you are going on an adventure few of us will ever be able to!
