Barcelona Thrill Seekers (Spain)
By:David Brydon

Thrill seekers coming to Barcelona can have their fair share of excitement on the Barcelona nightlife scene, which boasts some of the best clubs and after-hours clubs in Europe today. Many DJ's are residents here when not in the party capital of the planet, Ibiza, so what's left to do during the day?

Well, starting from spring 2009 the amusement park up on the top of Tibidabo Mountain has a new addition, hoping to pull the crowds in once more.

The new Tibidabo rollercoaster is currently under construction and will be the only one in Europe at a height of 520 metres. The steel structure will weave its way through the forests of Collserola Park in 82 seconds, and covers a distance of 718 metres, reaching top speeds of a white-knuckle 80 kilometres per hour! There will be a 66% incline and plenty of screams for your voice to carry all the way down to the Mediterranean Sea!

Moving slightly outside of Barcelona, south towards Tarragona in particular Salou, you can find Port Aventura (Adventure Port) - a huge theme park which also combines the Caribbean Themed water park. The park is divided into five themed areas, China, The Far West, Mediterranea, Mexico and Polynesia. This park also boasts some of the best thrill rides available to experience below the scorching Spanish sun. The famous Dragon Khan rollercoaster is one of the fastest rollercoasters you'll ever have the guts to climb into, and is the only rollercoaster in Europe with 8 loops, reaching top speeds of 110 kilometres per hour. Furius Baco is a new and unique ride, catapulting you from 0 to 135 kilometres per hour in just 3 seconds. Hurakan Condor is one of the free falling rides, leaving gravity behind as you plummet 100 metres into the abyss. Not forgetting the magnificent Sea Odyssey in Polynesia, an underwater thrill ride with guided dolphins, professor jellyfish and some amazing underwater effects. If you still have breath left, you can chill out in the 9000m2 water park with the typical wave machines and tyre rides as well as over 8 rapid water slides.

Following on with the Aquatic theme, just a short train ride from Barcelona takes you to the Fantasy Island Water Park. This is well worth the mention, as it is not just the typical water park, but also has a picnic area with barbeque facilities and plenty of space for sunbathing and relaxing after experiencing the thrills on offer. 8 water slides, including the kamakazi steep and rapid plunge, Spiral and Aquamania will leave you dizzy and raring to go again, and the fantastic "rapids" speak for themselves. All in all, well worth the visit if you get bored in Barcelona!
