Venice has a lot to offer when it comes to its history and culture. Many of it, fortunately, can be found just by walking the streets of Venice. However, some priceless treasures of art can only be found in some of their renowned museums and galleries.

For starters, the St.Marks Museum and galleria located within the Basilica di San Marco itself! This place is like a two-in-one treasure that will leave you wanting to come back again for more. There are three parts to this museum and galleria: Mosaics, Textiles, Quadriga and Antique, each showcasing unique parts of St.Marks. Take some time to check out the stone mosaics both on the floor and the golden tinted mosaics on the ceilings, the original St.Marks horses and two brilliant Byzantine embroidery pieces.

Scuola Grande di San Rocco is one you should not miss out as well. This stunning building was constructed during the Renaissance and is often used as a concert hall. However, the true beauty lies in the many canvases Tintoretto constructed. From canvases depicting the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary, to the brazen serpent and some of the most spiritual artwork you would ever encounter. Many say this place rivals even the great Sistine Chapel in Rome and even if you're not a fan of artwork, go for the sheer beauty of this building both inside and out and its amazing wooden carvings.

This next one would be something people might overlook due to the ever popular Basilica San Marco, but the Doge's Palace does not sit in its shadows. Contrary, it's a beautiful building that's now preserved as a museum and it is a real must for anyone who wants to talk a walk through the history of Venice. Dozens of magnificent paintings can be found all over the ceilings and walls and you get a real insight into the power and prestige the place held, coupled with fascinating works of art.

If you visit the Doge's Palace, I suggest you try to squeeze in one more museum for the day, that being the Galleria dell'Accademia. Its most popular piece, Michelangelo's David, Is probably what attracts most visitors. Get up close and personal with one of Venice's most loved statues and see what it is that captures people for yourself. Take your time exploring this Galleria though as there are many other beautiful paintings and statues dating as far back as 100s of years.
