Why Should I Visit Salisbury? (UK)
By:Andrew Carter

Salisbury is a beautiful Cathedral city in the south of England with a population of 45,000. With good road links to London (an hour and a half to Heathrow, one and three quarters to Gatwick and maybe two hours into central London), as well as a Rail link into London Waterloo.

Salisbury has a magnificent 13th century Cathedral, and is a compact city with a variety of mediaeval buildings, and an interesting museum. I live in Amesbury, about eight miles north of Salisbury, and within a stone’s throw of Stonehenge – a mysterious world heritage site.

Salisbury is a good centre for a visit to the south of England, with easy access to the varieties of the south coast: Brighton, Worthing and Bognor Regis are less than two hours from Salisbury to the East, and the delightful coast of Dorset and the beauties of Thomas Hardy’s Wessex are only an hour or so to the West. On our doorstep are the New Forest (actually it’s older than the Cathedral!), and Salisbury Plain, and Winchester (ancient capital of Wessex) Portsmouth (and our Naval heritage) and the Isle of Wight are all within easy reach.

So why shouldn’t you choose Salisbury as the centre for your holiday or business trip to England?!

Many overseas students choose to come to our City to learn English – it has a more relaxed atmosphere than London, has lower prices, and, most importantly is ideally located to discover England as well as English!
