Visit St Tropez, the Jewel of the French Riviera (France)
By:Andrew Regan

St Tropez is one of the most stunning locations on the French Riviera, and is often described as a modern version of a medieval town. Set on the sparkling blue waters of the fabulous Golfe de Saint-Tropez, St Tropez is generally seen as a holiday destination for the rich and famous; but its historical genesis as an international vacation destination is slightly more complicated.

While it was a retreat for global stars from the fashion world in the 1920s, St Tropez became a beach landing site during World War II. In the post-war era, it evolved from being an existentialist's summer holiday spot to what it is now - a globally recognised luxury holiday destination, a reputation that was cultivated largely due to Brigitte Bardot in the 1950s.

Today, with its bustling nightlife, elegant parties and beautiful beaches along the coast in the Baie de Pampelonne and east of Ramatuelle, St Tropez's calendar is packed with events that will please all its visitors year-round. If you're an avid sailing fan, perhaps the most famous annual event in St Tropez is the Giraglia Rolex Cup Sailing Regatta: every year in June, three days of regattas take place in the Golfe de St Tropez; this is followed by the famous offshore race from St Tropez to Genoa, which follows a course rounding the islet of Giraglia in north Corsica. During late September and early October, St Tropez hosts another popular Regatta: Les Voiles de St Tropez. Formerly known as the Nioulargue, Les Voiles sees the gathering of some of the most prestigious racing boats from across the world. This regatta provides visitors with a fantastic spectacle in the harbour, and is truly one of the highlights of the year in St Tropez.

Other popular events include the International Polo Cup, which is held in early July, and the Gold Polo cup held in September. St Tropez is also home to a number of art exhibitions, and it hosts various history of art lectures during the year. If you're looking for villas to rent in St Tropez, there are a number of different sources through which you can find what you're seeking. In fact, many visitors to St Tropez find that the best way to enjoy this fabulous destination is by staying in a luxury villa. St Tropez villas can be found in a variety of locations; so whether you're seeking a beachside property or a villa in the town centre, St Tropez villas are undoubtedly the best way to enjoy this fantastic holiday town.
