Holiday In Maremma Traveling Through Pitigliano, Capalbio, and Saturnia (Italy)
By:Gabriel Adams

The Maremma is a wonderful getaway if you are looking for fun and romance. Not only does the region show a glimpse of ancient civilizations and a beautiful natural landscape, but it also boasts wonderful wine and culinary masterpieces. The Maremma is filled with a very close knit group of people which make visitors feel like they are at home. When visiting the Maremma, you definitely want to visit the towns of Pitigliano, Capalbio, and Saturnia.

Pitigliano is characterized by tuff stone and volcanic magma, as well as crystal clear water and beautiful beaches. The history of this town is very apparent by the many different museums and attractions located here. The magnificient Orsini Castle is located at the entrance of Pitigliano, and the aqueduct that supplied the town with water is located next to it. At the edge of town there is a medieval gate called the Porta di Sovana. After passing through this gate you can see the remains of the Etruscan city wall. Throughout the area of Pitigliano are ancient paths with walls more than 10 meters high. These paths were dug into the rock by the Etruscans.

The next city to visit is Capalbio. This village is well known in the Italian gossip newspapers, because it is often visited by many famous people. Although it has become a major tourist destination, it still retains its ancient charm and beauty. Like most of the cities in the Maremma, Capalbio has many historical places to visit. Capalbio has a wonderful walled village from the medieval era that is still almost completely intact. The area around Capalbio is a great place to take a bike ride. The landscape is very beautifully dotted with olive groves and fields of flowers.

The final city on the tour of the Maremma is Saturnia. Saturnia is most well known for the Terme di Saturnia, which is a spa that boasts the healing effects of natural sulfur spring water. These natural hot springs are set into the walls of the town, and offer a relaxing feel and a breath-taking view of the surrounding area. Saturnia is a great place to visit and relax, as well as have fun dancing, and eating wonderful food. Saturnia has very nice people and is a wonderful place for tourists to see the ancient civilization of this area, as well as enjoy a nice relaxing time in the natural springs.
