Summary:
As of June, 2016, I have gained over 6 years of experience teaching Chinese students the language of English. My students vary widely not only in age, but also in level of ability. Some start at “zero” and need to learn the basics while others are advanced and needed help - such as English Corner groups - retaining what they have learned already and still others need specialized courses,

During my time in Emergency Medicine, I encountered native and non-native speakers of English in a wide variety circumstances. I understand the difficulties many immigrants face because of the difficult time they have understanding English as well as being understood. I was able to develop secondary means of communicating with them in order to be understood and to understand them.

Courses taught by me include: New Concept English, Interchange series, Smile series, IELTS, TOEFL, Medical English and others. While studying to be an EMT-B, I learned an extensive set of specialized medical vocabulary and knowledge of human anatomy, so I am able to teach Medical English. I have experience in developing curricula for specialized classes as well as group c;asses. I adhere to “Language Immersion” when teaching ESL/EFL and use translation as a last resort. Pictures are worth a thousand words, especially when teaching,

Education:
1. Shawnee State University - AAS 1980 to 1982
2. Shawnee State University - EMT- B certification 1990 to 1991
As a teacher’s assistant at Happy Hearts, I was able to better understand the problems MRDD students have. By paying careful attention to the educators I assisted, I was able to learn methods of reaching students of all levels of abilities. The time helped me to recognize the different ways of learning that best suit each student as individuals - such as games, videos, writing and speaking activities. These skills help me in class.
